Illinois Postnuptial Agreements Growing in Popularity

You are here: Home / Postnuptial Agreements / Illinois Postnuptial Agreements Growing in Popularity

May 9, 2016 by Law Offices of Ronald L. Bell

Illinois postnuptial agreements are growing in popularity. If you and your spouse did not get a prenuptial agreement prior to getting married, there is a growing trend in couples getting a postnup afterward. In fact, many family law attorneys are reporting a sharp increase in the number of requests for post nuptial agreements over the last several years.

The growing interest in prenuptial and postnuptial agreements seems to be a matter of increased awareness regarding long-term financial health.

Sometimes one spouse may grow uneasy when they see that their new spouse is a spendthrift or perhaps there is a problem with gambling, drugs or infidelity that signals financial alarms.

Other times, it may be a case of a remarriage where there are children from a previous marriage whose financial interests need to be protected.

If you and your spouse work together to determine what you have and decide how to divide as long as you are together and also if things sour, it may translate into reduced combat during the marriage and also a less derisive divorce if things unravel.

If you are considering a prenuptial or post nuptial agreement, contact the Law Offices of Ronald L. Bell PC for help today.  Let us help you protect yourself from unforeseeable events. Doing so can ensure your financial stability and provide protection for you and your spouse.
