Does Child Support Go Down if I Have Another Child?

You are here: Home / Child Custody / Does Child Support Go Down if I Have Another Child?

June 15, 2017 by Law Offices of Ronald L. Bell

If you have a child with a new spouse, the income available to pay child support for a child from a previous marriage may be reduced. You may want to seek a modification to the original child support obligation to reflect the change in your circumstances.

Typically, this will require you to file a petition with the court that issued your original child support order. During your hearing, you must show that there has been a substantial change in circumstances to modify the support order which may include a change in employment to a new addition to the family.
