Illinois DUI Enforcement Ramp Up

Police departments around the state are gearing up for the Independence Day ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ and the ‘Click It or Ticket’ effort. The South Elgin and Plainfield Illinois police departments have announced plans just recently to step up Independence Day traffic enforcement, focusing on both drunk and unbuckled drivers. The intensified enforcement effort will concentrate on late night hours as statistics reflect a disproportionate number of traffic deaths occur late at night and involve a drunk driver and/or an unbuckled motorist.

The statewide DUI/DWI enforcement effort officially kicked off yesterday, June 22, and runs through July 5. Police advise drivers to take precautions when out on the roads. They recommend having a designated driver who can provide safe transport. Failing that, police advise party-goers to call a cab or a friend for a ride to avoid driving under the influence. Make sure you and your passengers wear seatbelts, too. This can not only potentially save lives, it may help you avoid a costly ticket also. If you see drunk drivers on the roadway, promptly notify law enforcement.
