CDC Reports Drunk Driving Among Youth

Following an examination of federal data dating back to 2012, the CDC found that 4.2 million adults surveyed reported that they had driven while alcohol-impaired in a preceding 30 day period.

Among those surveyed, binge drinkers – those who have several drinks during a single occasion – are involved in nearly two-thirds of all drunk driving incidents. They are typically young, male adults ranging from 21 to 34, some away from home for the first time attending college. Although DUI/DWI rates vary widely between states, Midwestern states fare the worst.

Drunk driving convictions carry the risk of fines and possibly incarceration. A record of driving under the influence may interfere with finding employment or impact future school admission.
