Illinois DUI and Ignition Interlock Devices

The breath alcohol ignition interlock device is equipment that is installed in your car to detect driver alcohol levels. It is essentially a breathalyzer that controls access to driving privileges. When you have the BAIID device installed in your car, the driver must provide a breath sample into the BAIID device prior to starting the vehicle. If the driver blows into the BAIID and the sample is negative, the driver will be able to start their car and proceed. However, drivers registering breath samples of 0.05 or higher will be prevented from starting the car. BAIID devices typically cost anywhere from $700 to $1500 dollars a year and may be installed as part of a restricted driving permit through a formal administrative hearing process.
